A webinar on intellectual property issues was held at Kokshetau University named after Shokan Ualikhanov

On 6 December 2021 an online webinar on intellectual property issues was held at Kokshetau University named after Ualikhanov. The webinar was conducted by Yuri Bolotov, Managing Partner of Bolotov & Partners. The lecture was attended by students and supervisors of the Law faculty of university.

The lecture was devoted to the protection of intellectual property (IP) in Kazakhstan.

Yuri explained that IP is essentially a set of property and non-property rights to various results of intellectual activity. However, property rights are rights from which commercial profit can be derived, while non-property rights are authors’ rights, these author’s rights are not transferable, and no commercial profit can be derived from them.

The lecture also focused on international conventions governing intellectual property, giving examples of IP items, diagrams showing the volume of intangible assets in different countries of the world, such as the USA, China, Japan and the Member States of the European Union.
